The OPD of the Diocesan Hospital started its activities on January 19th 2011

The out-patient department of the diocesan hospital opened its services to the public on Wednesday 19th January 2011.

The OPD offers maternal and child health care, medication and consultation, laboratory and scanning services. It is also provided with a three beds emergency room for first aid treatments. Minus surgery services will soon be available.

A team of Comboni Missionary Sisters and Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa have been working since September 2010 to obtain all the necessary licenses and authorizations to start the medical activities and to produce the internal statements and regulations to run the services.

19 local people, between support and paramedical staff, are actually working in the OPD.

Sr. Joyce Ajio, CMS, who is charge of the OPD reported the preparation work was very long and hard but all the staff members are very willing to do their best to provide a quality service to the patients in Wau and surroundings.

Sr. Bianca Benatelli, CMS, assistant in charge of the OPD said the first days of activity went on smoothly. She wishes the services can give real help to the people.

Sr. Bianca, who was formerly in charge of the diocesan dispensary at HTI, also reported that after the closing of that dispensary at the end of 2008, many people were longing for the new OPD to open and to receive reliable assistance from the catholic structure.

Construction works are still ongoing to complete the inpatients departments and the theatre: by the end of February the first 25 beds ward should be ready and operational.
