The Prayer Campaign for the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan started in Wau Diocese Parishes on 28th May

The Prayer Campaign for the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan started off in the Salesian parish of St. Joseph the Worker – Wau, South Sudan on 28th May 2011 with a solemn Eucharistic procession. The Catholic Bishops of the Sudan have asked the faithful of the Sudan to implore Jesus, the Redeemer to grant the Republic of the South Sudan the gift of true Independence. Thus they have asked the different parishes in the Sudan to start off officially this Prayer Campaign on Saturday, 28th May 2011.

The faithful of the Salesian parish of St. Joseph the Worker in Wau gathered together in St. Stephen’s centre, Hai Calvario and solemnly took the Eucharistic Lord in procession to the main centre of the parish in Sikka Hadid about a kilometre from Hai Calvario. All through the procession they sang hymns to the Eucharistic Lord and prayed the rosary asking the Blessed Virgin Mary to intercede for them.

Fr. Jacob Thelekkadan invited the faithful of the parish to pray for the new country of the South Sudan to be built on the strong foundation - JESUS – the Way, Truth and Life. He insisted that looking for the Way, Truth and Life outside Jesus would only bring tragedies and despair into people’s lives.
